The Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC) offers professional planning services and innovative solutions to community challenges. Our approach is to partner with our municipalities, businesses, and organizations to maintain the high quality of life experienced in MontgomeryCounty. We foster these partnerships through increased communication, cooperation, and coordination. Since our inception in 1950, our major focus has been to promote orderly development while preserving valuable county amenities. We cover a wide range of planning areas, serving as an advisory body on land use, transportation, the environment, water and sewer service, parks and open space, farmland preservation, storm water management, site design, housing, zoning, development patterns, and demographic trends in the county. Our professional planners develop county plans, model ordinances, and other informational publications as well as provide technical assistance and services to our 62 municipalities. Our agency consists of a nine-member appointed board and a professional staff of 47. MCPC also serves as staff to the Montgomery County Commissioners on planning issues.
